Happy Valentines Day!

In Featured, Ministry Reports by David Waller8 Comments

February has been such a special month for our family for several reasons. First, we celebrated three years of marriage this year. Wow! They seem to have flown past. Second, Valentines Day is such a great reminder to not just celebrate our anniversary on February 4, but though out the whole month.

Here is something written to encourage us all to focus on God’s love during this wonderful month:

Someone once asked a prolific author on Bible doctrine, “What is the most profound theological truth in the Scriptures?” He thought for a moment and simply replied quoting the lines of Anna B. Warner, “Jesus loves me, this I know for the Bible tells me so.”

How often do we take this profound truth for granted? God’s love is unconditional and inexhaustible. His love is more than enough for everyone in the world, and there is nothing that will lessen, reduce, or minimize that love. God is love and He proved His love for us in that He gave His life for our redemption. If we fail to abide in God’s love, it is so easy to become short and agitated toward the ones whom we should love the most. Scripture states, “We love Him because He first loved us” (John 1:19). In other words, our love toward God and others is simply a response to His great love toward us. We simply become a channel of God’s love to others.

Over a hundred years ago, a young actress from was hoping to do a good deed by cheering up a sick girl with a visit. During the course of their time together, the actress was deeply moved by the evident love that the young sick girl had for her Savior, Jesus Christ. It was not long after their meeting that the actress considered the claims of the Gospel and committed her life to Christ. Unfortunately, the woman had a difficult time helping her unsaved father understand how her new-found faith would not be consistent with pursuing life as an actress. Her father was greatly disappointed, especially as he contemplated how their living would be lost and the business destroyed. He insisted that his daughter fulfill her commitment to appear in an advertised play just days later.

When the crowd had arrived and the curtains were drawn back, the young actress stepped forward and simply quoted the poetic lines of a sixteen-year-old’s testimony: “My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine; For Thee all the follies of sin I resign; My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou; If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.” The young actress had done what she believed her Savior wanted. Leaving the audience in tears, she retired from the stage, never to appear upon it again. Through her influence her father was converted, and through their united evangelistic labors many were led to God.

Take time to read the Gospel of John and think upon His love for you. Thank Him for His love and express that love to your family. You might consider gathering your family and reading 1 Corinthians 13. The attributes of love are the attributes of God, and in Him we can love others. Another fun activity for younger children is to have them stand up or raise their hand every time they hear the word “love” as you read the book of I John.
