Happy Mother’s day! There is not a person on the face of this earth who should not take a moment to honor the one who nurtured you for at least for the months you were in the womb, and for most of us, for much longer.
I celebrate this Mother’s Day with a whole new appreciation for mothers since I witnessed the birth of our first child, Paul William Waller. I was with Priscilla through the 27 hours of labor and then saw the joy come to her face as she saw our son for the first time. I can only imagine what she went through since I could only be there for her, but I know if that was all that a mom had to do, that would be enough for every one of us to show utmost gratefulness. Moms do so much more and we have taken so much for granted.
Growing up, my mother taught me so much about God just by the way she responded to life situations. Anyone who knows my mom knows that she is a direct and honest person, but her love for people empowered that candor to inspire people to put their faith and trust in Christ. Others, it challenged them to forgive an offender, or to trust the Lord with the size of their family and to love children.
I will never forget the time we went to get my first pair of “real” cowboy boots. I was consumed with what they would look like and how durable they were going to be. My mom, on the other hand, was taking time to talk to the young lady who was behind the counter about the Lord. Just about the time I had concluded which boots were best, I turned and saw the young lady in tears receiving Christ as her Savior. These are the memories that make mother’s day special, but this year I celebrate with a whole new appreciation for mothers!
